this has got to be the BEST birthday present ever. (and i'm sorry i didn't ask your permission to post it up here but i figured you won't mind =p)

tiny tots. a whole new world. wide- eyed ingenue. the grey and white chequered skirts. 3GG. mr kok. 1996. "i'll call you."

wishing wells. attap huts. chicken in coops. smelly ducks. lily pond. hopscotch. GTB. fainting spells. coming to see how you are doing with your prefect duties at those lonely dark staircases. Mrs Tang. playing the recorders. scaring ourselves silly with that "metal door". spore workouts. national anthems at the end of the day and walking out of school. napfa test at the woodlands park. the tuition. the walks. the candy shops. tomato- flavoured twisties. praying we'll get into the same secondary school. singing as a class for mrs beins. feeling scared of the whole new world that awaits and whether we'd be seeing one another again.

placements. the colour maroon. checking namelists. 106. a familiar name. euphoria.

2000. making new friends yet staying together. the field. the classmates. the teachers. the things we'd be learning. ELDDS. getting close with the seniors because we so wanted to have someone to rely on. deborah. missing them when they left. having to stabilise ourselves. auditioning for a role in the musical for school's 40th Anniversary. you coming to my rehearsals.

Lot 1. the library. the endless neoprints. getting a neoprint album. the long hours at Mc. "my friend has a crush on you." pulling the bell at LJS. trying out clothes at SEIYU but not buying any. 7-11. the endless cups of waxed noodles. sitting in a circle with the other girls sipping the hot soup. going back to class for the remedials. cabin classrooms. the seniors. getting crazy. light-headed. totally crushed ;]

inter-class cheering competitions. streaking our cheeks bright with lipstick. smearing "206" across our foreheads. bandanas. screaming at the top of our lungs like totally uncivilised people. banging loud and hard on those wooden tables. end of year exams. fearing we'd be split again. me getting into the lit class. praying for you to get it too. euphoria again.

upper secondary. new classmates. joining council for me. cellgroups for you. sur5vors. dancing for drama. grease and summertime. naim with his "balls". NCC room directly opposite our drama room :) :) lepaking in the drama room when we had access to the key. captainballs. basketballs. hiding behind the bushes so we could skip a round. sports days and cheering and cheering for those in blue. getting ahead of the rest just so we can get to eat the malay stall's chicken rice. my councillor duties. saying the pledge in front of the whole school. the sec3 camp. a midsummer's night dream.

    407. the seniors. the colour coded messages. the passing of notes. 2.4 km. A Maths. me dropping out of it. Romeo & Juliet. "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." our coming of age stories.

    the distance.

a lifetime it seems. if only it could have continued like that. but no matter the space or distance, i like to think that we were each a major part of the other's history. that no matter how hard times are at the present moment, we could tap into the better memories of a shared history, to provide the strength comfort and willpower. that even if we continue to pursue our different dreams and directions, we'd somehow be pulled back together, the way we have been all these years.

so here's wishing you the happiest twentieth :)
wish i cld have spent the day with you.
may all your heart's wishes be fulfilled and that happiness is urs for keeps, forever.

    <3

[` you know i heart you too dear. here's to a lifetime of friendship and many many more endless memories. mwah! =) ]

My God is so great, so strong and so mighty,
there's nothing my God cannot do.

song i used to sing as a kid. but seriously, it holds through even till today. My God is awesome!!!

have been feeling kinda lost this past week, overwhelmed by the stress of upcoming exams and the uncertainty of everything in my life. these random thoughts have been filtering through my mind, swirling and spinning till everything was a big tangle of worries and fears.

ever since my time to come to tasmania drew nearer, i always had discussions with the 'rents and i told them that my dream was to work here and get my PR, probably settle down here as well. they were very encouraging, telling me to just try it out and see what God has in mind for me.

but then when i came here, i realised that i only had 1 yr here and this wasn't enough to fulfill the 2yr minimum uni education requirement in order to get PR. i considered doing bar but then the longest that i knew so far was the tassie one and it only lasted for 9mths. so in the end, i would still be 3 months short of meeting that requirement and at that point, i just told myself, forget it. there's no way aussie will work for you, concentrate on getting a job in singapore or malaysia. but deep in my heart, the desire to stay back here never went away.

and then, it so happened i was talking to a church friend this morning, and we happened to talk about all these. and she told me that i could do adelaide practical legal training bcuz it was a 1 yr course!!! and to make things even more awesome, my cousins are there and this adds points to the overall requirement. and the course has placement as well so in the event that i dun stay back here, i can still have some work experience!!! =)))

i really believe that God does indeed see the desire in our hearts and He will fulfill them and reveal them to us when it's the right time. He walks every step of our journey with us, and sometimes when we get so weary and downtrodden and we just feel like giving up, He reveals his mercy and power and you just can't help but be amazed at how well He knows you.

i've been missing kids conference like crazy and i was just telling a friend yesterday to organize another kids conference and then this morning, during worship, we had the kids along with us and we sang all the songs we learnt at kids conference. yayyyy!!!

2 revelations at once...He really made my day... for with God, nothing is impossible! =))))

[`in every victory, let it be said of me, my source of strength, my source of hope, is Christ alone.]

was just browsing through stuff and i realised that my circle of friends has shrunk as the years go by. yes, i have many acquaintances and people who pop in and out of my life, but at the end of the day, i don't have a group of people to hang out with and do things together. what i have are the lovelies, but each of them are separate so i hang out with them on their own separately. is that good? i kinda think so.

and sometimes it just shows us how human company is so essential to our sense of well-being. that throughout our lives, we need people as our anchors and to share moments and memories with us. some anchors don't hold deep enough and get cast away by the current after awhile, some anchors have grown old and rusty and the rope is wearing out. and yet, there are some, who despite the choppy waves and turbulent waters, hold on to that link and provide strength, support and a presence that's always there.

i wished i could say that i maintain friendships with people but seriously, it takes alot of work. and to have to chat/email/call acquaintances or people who used to be close is seriously draining at times. the stilted conversations, the lack of topics, the unfamiliarity of what's going on in their lives and the need to think what are the appropriate questions to ask. i can't stand the fake-ness of it all.

i am too attached to my family members especially fei gong and i dunno if it's good or bad. attachment to them means i can live my life without anyone as long as i have their company and attention. and of course, some of the closer friends, who continue to pick up wherever we left the friendship with no traces of awkwardness or time being lost. but yet, some part of me yearns to be able to connect with new people in a deeper way, that i can have fun with and build up a friendship that will continue to grow. but the thing is, i need history to connect with strangers. and that is why new friends can never beat years of shared history and memories.

am i cherished? am i an important part of people's lives? do they notice my presence and miss me when i'm gone? do they consider me an acquaintance/friend/close friend/confidant/best friend? i don't know. my head's so screwed up now i can't even differentiate anymore.

let's do away with distance and time shall we? let's rewind it back to perfect moments and freeze it at that point. i wouldn't mind a world where everything changes but the main character never seems to change and develop. the scenery around him changes, the timeline, the people and the structure of everything evolves. lines begin to form on his face, hair turns white, limbs grow weary and eyesight fails. and yet, through it all, he has steadfastly remained as he is.

i can so see myself like that. but then i would be lost in this world wouldn't i?

take me away from the ordinary and show me that you care.

[`til i see You face to face, and grace amazing takes me home, I'll trust in You.]

the countdowns have started. it is about a month's time from final exams. grrrr. i really really dont like having to study here. i like the environment and everything but the workload is just seriously killing me. not that they dont kill my classmates too. but arggghhh, whoever heard of nonstop assignments one???? even with 30 days to go till my finals, i have 3 assignments to do and 3 papers to prepare. bahhhh!! stupid university.

was just reading through previous blog entries,as in those wayyyy back and haha,i find some of them so funny! like the young 18 year old making so much noise and testing her newfound freedom, and now i'm approaching 20 le. i just feel that in the space of these 2 years, i have really gone through so much and my outlook in life is so different now. some core issues remain the same, but when i compare the shiujean then and the shiujean now, i can see alot of the naivety and innocence gone, and in its place i see a jaded shiujean, a shiujean that is much much more skeptical, more judgmental, and definitely more guarded. i choose not to speak alot about issues i grapple with especially to those around me, i just wait for the selected few to come online or email me and then i let loose a barrage of feelings. like a pent-up river bursting forth. hahaha. but it's good in a way i guess, no worries about things being spread, about people judging me, cuz i know these few will never say anything, especially the 01-09-1987 one. yayness!

i guess having to really be independent has opened up my eyes alot more to the world around me. to see the things that happen to me, to others and to deal with it. no more running away and getting solutions from the 'rents, it's just me and myself now. and there's just this whole myriad of emotions going through me now. so many unspoken words, unexpressed feelings, unasked questions. what has become of me?

my life now. so shallow. filled with routines, fakeness, loneliness, everything that i don't want. and yet, i feel so selfish having even thought about that because i know i have really really been blessed in my life and yet i don't appreciate it. there are good days of course, filled with laughter and joy and just plain cuckoo-ness but with exam pressures building up and being so far from my family, fei gong and close friends, i just cant stay positive and upbeat. i want to just give up everything, close my eyes and wake up to find myself in an unknown place, to do the things i want without having to worry about all the usual stuff. am i that superficial in your eyes?

oh wells, i guess i just have to get through this 1 month and then it'll be another phase of my life gone. people i meet will move on to their new environments and then it will be time to fly home and be surrounded by unconditional love, laughter and pampering. i can't waittttt, i really really really can't. =)))))))

and as i turn 20 in 24 days time, will you say a prayer for me that i will have a blessed one and that i will appreciate the things around me more? that i will get through my exams and grow in my faith. that i will focus outwards and not keep imposing ME ME ME on everything around me. and that at the very least, i will have that one wish fulfilled.

[`if my heart has grown cold, there your love will unfold, as you open my eyes to the work of Your Hands. ]

    i can't un-think about you.
